Invasive fish can walk on land



This aggressive fish can live for days on land, dragging itself along with its gills - The Washington Post


The climbing perch - Anabas testudineus - Native to southeast Asia is an invasive species that is on their way to Australia. With the help from hitching rides from the bottom of boats, the fish could possibly make it.



Abilities
  • Crawls on dry land by dragging itself by the gills 
  • Survive there for almost a week (6 days) 
  • Despite being a freshwater fish, was able to travel Asia to an islands north of Australia. 
  • Salt-water resistant
  • Puffs up in the throat of predators, suffocating them from the inside.
  • Hibernate in dry creeks for months
